This is about Community Time Travel Research, and all are invited to participate, wherever you are.
The Krononaut Moon Project is what we call a Type 2.0 attempt to make contact with Time Travelers. In the past, there have been several known efforts, under various titles like Reception, Gathering, or Party, with invitations “sent” to Time Travelers, Tourists or Visitors from the Future(s) to beam down to Earth at a given time & location. These happenings took place at MIT in the US, in Perth AU, and the most famous one was at Cambridge in the UK, organized (or disorganized : ) by theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. Those three events were independent of one another. But our own indie group, The Krononauts (alt-spelling Chrononauts), preceded all of them by over two decades with our Gathering for Visitors from the Futures, on March 9, 1982 — more than 40 years ago. The history and further context are detailed in our Medium.com article, “On the Night of the Total Lunar Eclipse“, plus related pages. Note here that March 9, 1982 was a Full Moon, but it was not a Total Lunar Eclipse. The significance of this distinction will become evident in a few paragraphs.
So how are the Time Travelers supposed to know when to show up?
The most elegant answer is, they already know. In the future, sentient beings will know all about all of these attempts to make contact with them. They might even know that you were reading this article. And no, this is not some kind of mind game or science fiction. It is a logical open-community thought experiment being played out in the real world. We like to call this “experimentations, observations & celebrations of Time Travel“. Through archival documentation and other mechanisms, on this webpage, on Wikipedia, on Mastodon and sites like the New York Times, on Google & DuckDuckGo, our friends in the future(s) will know that we are working on this project. They will know that they are invited to make contact, and could then elect to fire up their Time Machines, or (more likely) send us a quantum signal. (Insert image here of: if you can only think hard enough : ) Maybe you are a good solid skeptic, doubting that a “message in a bottle” could last until centuries from now. OK then, so have you seen any good cave paintings lately? How about a 15-thousand-year-old petroglyph?
What is meant by experimental version Type 2.0?
Our original Time Travel experiment in 1982, and the handful of other attempts that followed, all suffered from the same, flaw. Frankly, this should have been obvious from the get-go. All of them were what we now think of as “one-nighters” — version Type 1.0. They were one single reception location on one single night. Sci-Fi fans will quickly tell you all kinds of arguments of why this was not a good idea. Time Travelers might prefer a little variety in the offerings. Maybe they would like a marching band through a field of radar telescopes. Or maybe not — maybe they’d rather meet you and your dog, by a lakeside campfire in the full-Moonlight. Or your friends & colleagues on top of a mountain. Who knows? But together we intend to find out. Because this time it’s Type 2.0. No more single place or single time. The Time Travelers can have their pick.
The Krononaut Moon Project, as we now call it, takes place under the Total Lunar Eclipse. Right now that’s on March 13-14, 2025, but there will be more. On average, around one every 13 months, on a highly irregular periodicity, which makes things even more interesting.
Some of you are beginning to see how we are talking about “decentralization” or “federation” here — like Mastodon social media. If any bad actors try and stop us, they can’t, because we will be in all different places. For yourself & your folks, you can participate in any way that you like. Venture out under the Full Moon and watch the Eclipse. Light a candle or a campfire to greet the Time Travelers. They will be looking for you. Or, if you have the means or inclination you could produce an elaborate performance or use the night for carrying out your own quantum experimentations. Let’s let Nature decide when the moment is right.
It’s easy to remember: The Night of The Krononaut Moon is under the Total Lunar Eclipse, and anyone can participate, wherever you are. Even a Time Traveler can remember that.
